About

Balu und Du (Baloo and You) is a German project that provides equal opportunities and mentorship for underprivileged children in elementary school. Through the program, young adults between the ages of 17 and 30 can become mentors, known as “Baloos,” to children known as “Mowglis.”

The program operates on a one-to-one basis, ensuring that each pair of child-mentor meet for one to three hours a week throughout the period of one year. Mentors share new experiences and perspectives with their mentee, hereby supporting the Mowgli’s personal development and helping them to tackle the challenges of everyday life.

The mentoring Baloos are guided by professionals and children eligible for the program are, with their parents’ approval, nominated by their teachers.

John and Marine van Vlissingen Foundation has been supporting Balu und Du since 2018 and committed to providing the project with continuous aid.

Balu und Du operate in various locations throughout Germany.
